MAN CANNOT LIVE BY KIMCHI ALONE

We will devote this post to a subject near and dear to our hearts - and to my (Gene's) waist line.

FOOD!

And it is a fact that we are eating well.  Almost all the Korean dishes are very spicy, but we are enjoying them - to the amazement of the Korean people.  There has been a big variety of places to eat and always something new to try.  Saturday we ate at a cafe that serves North Korean style food - bowls of cold noodles.
While Brother Dupre and Brother Hawkins were here, we were introduced to the Tofu Cafe.  The name sounds very ordinary, but this is our favorite restaurant so far.  We have been there 3 times already.
It is out in the country at the foot of a mountain in a very nice log building. Each time we have seen families hiking.

Yes, they do serve Tofu - in many different ways.

This fine table is made from one slab of wood, and at it you must remove your shoes and sit on the floor.  The other tables are regular style with chairs and benches.  Much of the time they play beautiful sacred music.

This salad, with tofu, and ginger dressing is our favorite.

As you can see, they are very artistic with the dishes.  The cup of pumpkin soup is served cold.  The little neatly tied bundles of onion are tasty - especially after being dipped in the red pepper paste.
Notice all the side dishes that are on the table at every meal.  These include hot peppers, acorn jelly, and many varieties of kimchi (most common is fermented cabbage).  All are very spicy and very healthy.
There is always soup - and there were oysters in this one.  But, you never know just what you may find in soups - fish, fish heads, fish eggs, and fish uuhhh (other parts).

Bibimbap "mixed meal" served with a raw egg on top.   You stir in the egg and it cooks at your table.

The French bakery - a picture is worth a 1000 words.  Also good sandwiches and breakfast pastries

Birthday dinner for Brother Choe's Sister

In spite of the challenge of finding ingredients, Sheila's home cooking is hard to beat. This time: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, rolls, and iced tea.  But without corn meal we will miss having chicken and dressing this Easter.
Last night it was chicken tetrazzini, salad, homemade 1000 island dressing, broccoli, Italian bread, and banana pudding.

In case of desperation, there is always McDonalds, and here there is McDelivery.   We had hamburgers at another place, but with a sweet sauce on them, and even here at McDonalds we could not get any mustard.

You two are perfectly suited for this ministry. I would be one skiiiinnnny lady in Korea (or maybe not since I would probably live at the Golden Arches. We'd have McDelivery every night, and we're not fans of McD's!) Cold noodles, tofu, fermented cabbage and fish parts aren't exactly on my menu. :) I would be a good missionary in Italy. Mike would be a good missionary in a Cracker Barrell. LOL! Does the English gentleman (I forget his name) love Sheila's southern cooking?

Yes, Huw (the Welshman) likes Sheila's cooking - at least he has said he does the last 3 Sunday nights - and he takes home the leftovers. Tammy, we do not seem to have lost any weight yet - in spite of the many miles we walk.

That looks like my kind of food! Ok, really there's not much that isn't my kind of food, but that looks really good. I'm glad y'all are doing so well. I've really enjoyed all of your blog posts. I even showed your blog to the church congregation at Shawn and Crystal's church back in March. It's amazing to see all the doors God has opened during the short time y'all have been there. We are thinking and praying for you always. Love y'all!

Funny Tammy - Yes, Mike would be a good missionary at Cracker Barrell! We've always said - Dad will eat anything. Actually, most of it looks pretty good.
