HANOK VILLIAGE

Traditional Korean Village
In Jeonju, a city of 650,000 near our home, there is an area of about 800 traditional houses and businesses that have not been replaced by modernization.  This area has become a travel attraction, with museums, craft shops, entertainment, and many food places.  Twice on Friday, our day off, we have ridden the bus to the village.  The crafts there are very much to our taste, but they are not cheap.  The shops and vendors realize this is a "developed" country and price accordingly.  The linen clothes - dresses, blouses, shirts, and vests - are very beautiful.   There is also much pottery, Korean paper, and metal art.  Each time we have visited this area, several people have stopped to talk with us.  Koreans are a friendly, gracious people.

Candy Maker
He takes a ball of honey, dips it in corn starch, makes a loop,  dips it in the starch, makes more loops, multiplying the loops as he goes until he has about 16,000 thin strands of honey.  This takes about a minute and then he forms it into a lump about the size of your thumb,  adds ground nuts to the center, and you have a good tasting candy that looks like a white cocoon.

Elaborate roof decorations on the restored buildings.

Bamboo Walkway.

Wall garden along the street.

Paper flowers
This city is famous for paper making.  Artwork such as these flowers, the dolls in the next picture, even paper clothing

The intricacy is AMAZING! I love the little paper doll village--how sweet. The paper flowers are exquisite. All the detailing on the buildings speaks of great care. I'm so glad you're getting to see and experience such wonderful attractions.
