As in Atlanta, the luggage still weighed 390 pounds not counting purse, coats, and camera bag. We got 2 carts, loaded the luggage ourselves, found the Best Western shuttle bus, and made it to the hotel. We slept well and Brother Choe came to the hotel at noon to meet us. We carted the luggage (it still weighed 390 pounds) from our room back to the shuttle bus, back to the airport, and into the bus for the trip from Seoul to Iksan. The bus driver had to open a seldom used compartment under the bus to accommodate all our luggage.
After the 3 hour ride, Brother Choe's wife, Sister Shin, met us at the bus stop in the church's brand new 12 passenger van. We loaded the luggage into the van (it still weighed 390 pounds). Even though it is a full size van it was difficult getting the luggage in with the seats in place. It was a short ride to our new home.
Then after extracting the luggage from the van it was up 4 floors by stair to our new home. The luggage now weighed 930 pounds - just kidding.
We had anticipated a very small apartment. In reality it is about 45' x 21' divided into small entry, foyer, kitchen, utility room, dining room, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, and enclosed sun porch. We do not have a clothes washer, but one is on order. The entire interior has been remodeled, new floors, new wall paper, new frig, new stove, new kitchen cabinets. It is cold here and has been the coldest winter on record. Now it is in the 40's during the day and 20's during the night.
Brother Choe and his wife have spent time with us each day helping us purchase essentials. They provided the bed, bedding, kitchen utensils, living room and dining room furniture.

We have added a toaster oven for our cornbread and bisquits - if we can find flour and meal.

The heating is in the floor.

The rack hanging from the ceiling is the clothes dryer.

Looks like a nice apartment and a nice view! Are all the doors see-through? Is there a solid front door? Closets? Hope you get a washer and an oven soon. At least you won't have to worry about getting a gym membership. That luggage weight got you started ;) and the stairs will keep you healthy (or kill you), but we're praying for healthy. Ha! So what happens if you decided to wear shoes in your own apartment? The shoe police show up? Ha!
There are solid doors on the entry and bedroom, but no standard closets, thus you see all our clothes stacked on those shelves. Have now set up a hanging rack in the bedroom for some clothes.
Yes, we have been reminded a time or two to remove our shoes. Besides the stairs, we have done more walking this week than you can imagine. People here are very energetic, even for me, who is usually the speedy one.
It's WONDERFUL to hear, and see, something from you guys. The apartment looks WAAAAAY nicer than the studio apartment we looked at when we were there. I'm so happy for you.
That 1,390 pounds of luggage needed to all be on wheels! Of course, that wouldn't have helped with lugging it up 4 flights of stairs. Just keep reminding yourself that the stairs will make you younger and healthier. It may not be TRUE, but it wouldn't hurt to try to believe it. ;-)
I heard you don't have Internet at your apartment? Brother Choe mentioned several times that Korea had the most modern and wide-spread Internet capabilities of any other country; that 90% of Koreans had Internet access. I hope you soon get to be part of the 90%.:-D
Praying for you daily.
The internet service was wired into our apartment, but was not turned on until Thursday night SK time. We have a house phone (internet phone) but do not know how to operate it - the user guide is not in English and I have not found one online. We do not have cell phones yet. We are trying to find the right combination of phones and price contract.
